The Breakup: Part One

Everyone loves a good two piece set, throw it on and run out the door.  But I feel these pieces get neglected, often they are super cute and wearable on their own but we just don't even think hard enough to style them in any other way.  So, today I'm sharing how to breakup with your two-piece set.  I started with the top from my Pajama Party Chic post.  Its a great ASOS camisole (shop here) with unique silhouette, and could totally stand on its own.  I paired it with a Free People denim mini (shop here) for a super casual look.  I spent my day at the Utah Arts Festival and in this 90 degree heat I needed a look to help keep my cool.  The bandana (shop here) has really been speaking to me since I've been in Utah, I think it helps me fit in (joke).  For a day of walking I wore my Comme Des Garcons Converse (shop here) they are ultra chic but will leave your feet happy at the end of the day.  I love pairing completely different patterns in one look, from the stripes to hearts to bandana print, it gave this look lots of dimension.  Embrace the breakup! I can't wait to show you how I styled the pants.

Salt Lake City has been a blast so far, scroll down to see some exclusive shots from my first weekend here!

 Weekend Warrior:

 Dinner at Cafe Trio.
I had the yummiest geltato, it was coconut sticky rice. It literally had little pieces of rice in it, way too good.
Pizza night at Mellow Mushroom.
Relaxing with a PB&J at Utah Arts Festival.
The best $2 I've ever spent.

It's All Love

I am super excited to share my newest favorite brand, JED.  JED makes amazing cashmere sweaters that are playful yet chic.  When the box arrived it was so beautifully packaged I didn't even want to open it.  Packaging is super important to me, its so much more exciting opening a beautifully wrapped piece of clothing in a box with a bow on top.  Somehow JED seemed to know me and they picked out this piece for me.  The fact that it is baby pink with a patterned sleeve is just above and beyond perfect.  It reminds me of the tops I used to wear from Mini Boden but in a chic more grown-up way.  I went super casual for this summer time sweater look, I paired it with a pair of white shorts and white converse.  This look is perfect for a cool day or a breezy evening.  For a little sparkle I showed off my necklace from Micha Store.  Its one necklace but looks like a layered piece!  I am loving this head wrap from Love Emme, stay tuned for their launch this summer!

Twinning: Father Daughter Edition

I had way too much fun with my Mother's Day post not to continue the trend to Father's Day.  I am so lucky to be blessed with outgoing and creative parents who let me dress them (not that they need style help) and pose for photos with a smile.  For Father's Day I got Dan a new Ben Sherman sport coat (shop here), this stone color is perfect for summer.  To add some pizazz to his coat I found this amazing three piece kit by Penguin (shop here), I couldn't get him to wear the bowtie but the flower pin and pocket square were a good start!  This kit is such a fun gift idea, I found it at Nordstrom Rack.  He paired his new duds with a white button-up and dark jeans, a jacket and some small accessories are the perfect way to upgrade your day to day look.  To match Dan's spiffy summer look I wore my mother's Anthropologie gingham dress (shop similar) and a pair of tan sandals (shop similar).

I am off to spend the next six weeks in Salt Lake City at Ballet West.  I will be blogging but I will be most active on Snapchat (danimikay) and Instagram (mermaidwaves).  Make sure to follow my ballet filled journey this summer!  If you have any SLC spots I must visit let me know in the comments below!

Check out this custom Shinola.  Very proud of this birthday present.

Mini Man Repeller

One of my biggest inspirations for my blog and just for my life in general is Man Repeller.  From Leandra's bold and infectious style to the dancing with the mailman, its everything I want my blog to represent.  A total judgement-free zone full of bold choices and good shoes.  So, when Man Repeller gave bloggers the challenge to style an H&M piece for the chance to win a mentorship with Leandra herself and a nomination for the Breakthrough Fashion Blogger of the year, I ran to H&M

I found this beautiful tapestry looking sleeveless top, so I styled a "chic grandma goes to the city" look.  Clearly I love a pair of flared jeans but for summer I swapped out of my full length denim for some Free People cropped flares (shop).  I cut mine to hit right below my calf for a super flattering look, your ankles will look skinnier than ever before.  I threw a Gap button down (shop) around my waist to break up the long line of the top, when you are as temperature confused as I am its always safe to have an extra layer hiding somewhere in your look.  These platforms (shop) are amazing, they look just like Stella McCartney's but are about $900 less.  Mine are two sizes to big but that was a risk I was willing to take, I buckled about 200 times while out in this look but it was worth it.  My summer staple is Princess the Purse, I haven't left the house without her since I adopted her.  The iridescent shine of the bag makes it fit any look, and the circular hardware coordinated nicely with my round sunnies (shop).
