Who What Wear x Target

I don't do Black Friday or door busters, but when I saw that Who What Wear was collaborating with Target, I had my alarm set for 6:45.  Me and Kelly were the first ones in line (LOL).  It is the ultimate street style star collection all for under $50.  I snagged almost one of everything so get ready to see a lot of Who What Wear coming to Mermaid Waves.  Everything is super minimal allowing you to mix and match pieces with items you already own.  I love this basic dotted tee, I have so many crazy pieces so finding basics to add in is exactly what my wardrobe needs.  I wore this dress unbuttoned as a jacket over the tee and some flares, the look is super minimal even with the mixed patterns.  I also got this dress in denim, I am so excited to style it!

Be Mine

Too early for Valentine's Day? Never!  This all pink ensemble will leave you with a line of secret admirers everywhere you go.  I am loving this sweater and skirt combination, not only are the colors super dreamy, but I love the flair of the skirt with the bell sleeve.  A Valentines Day look wouldn't be complete without fun accessories like a pink faux fur jacket and a feather in your hair!  For extra V-day points, carry around vintage valentines!

How crazy is this weather in Chicago today?! The fact that I went out with bare legs and didn't want to cry is a miracle.  Although, I am still in need of more snow, anyone else?

Call an Uber

I feel like I have been gone for ages! I missed you all.  Last week was a very special and exciting week for me, I had my senior choreographed show over the weekend and it was an amazing experience.  My little Mermaid Waves break was totally worth it! But now I'm back and super excited for the month ahead, between Chinese New Year and Valentines Day (my favorite holiday) there is going to be lots of exciting looks!  This look was supposed to be a Chinese New Year inspired look (hence the red) but I look more like a chic chauffeur.  I paired a buffalo plaid top with a leather pleated skirt and a classic black double breasted coat over top.  These shoes are definitely one of my all time favorites, they are a total Valentino rip-off but if you can't get the real thing get the next best! To really complete the chauffeur look I threw on a leather baseball cap.

How to Re-Wear All Your Dresses

My sweet-sixteen dress was practically made for me, black and gold, feather bottom, open back.  It was a dream dress, and as much as I would love to wear it everyday, that's clearly impractical.  A great way to restyle old party dresses for everyday is to layer on top of them.  The bottom of this dress looks like any other skirt, but better because its feathered.  I layered a casual sweater on top of this dress, the sweater almost has a peplum to it, creating a super interesting silhouette.

Also I would like to give a big birthday shoutout to my photographer and MOMMY! Mermaid Waves would probably be a sad collection of mirror selfies without her! Happy Birthday Mom! Thanks for letting me borrow your sweater for this post.

Outerwear Series: Winter Florals

If you live in a city like Chicago, your outerwear in the winter shouldn't be a second thought.  Since most of your day is going to spent wearing a coat, you might as well look good in it.  Throughout the rest of this season I am going to be sharing some of my favorite tips for staying warm and looking hot.  For this look I mixed a wintery floral top with the multi-floral printed coat.  The colors are all in the same family making this mix of prints go together effortlessly.  The floral on floral makes sure everyone knows this coat was not an afterthought.  This coat is a serious gem from Anthropologie, my mom got this for me when I was about 12.  I was way too afraid I was going to be made fun of to wear it, but I am so glad I never it out of my hands.  I paired this coat with a pair of flares, tbh I have worn a pair of flares everyday this week, and now I have run out of pants.

Leggings are Pants

Ok, I get it, leggings are pants. I honestly have a really hard time getting on board with this.  As someone with less curves than a ruler I just feel ridiculous in them.  I love a good boyfriend jean, or a pair of flares.  All though I don't wear them as pants, that doesn't mean I am anti-legging.  I have put together a super chic look that still allows you to wear your favorite leggings.  I put these textured leggings under a body con dress, I just scrunched up the dress to make it a little shorter.  I paired this look with a simple cardigan, black tall boots, and delicate accessories.  This look is sophisticated but probably the coziest outfit you will wear all week (like it's fall asleep in class cozy).   Mixing all neutrals and playing with the levels of this look, draws your eyes away from the leggings and allows for an overall clean look.
