Over Easy: A Brunch Look

Since my NYE plans include a big plate of mac and cheese and lots of movies, I am not quite bringing out the sequins. So, instead I have created the perfect New Years Day Brunch Look.  This brunch look is super laid back but will have you looking like the chicest one at the table.  I am loving the dress over pants comeback happening now, but its easy to have flashbacks to first-grade.  The black over black makes this a super mature take on the look.  This dress also can be unbuttoned to show off more pant or be worn as a shirt, which I love.  Dresses and Flares make a perfect yet unlikely match.  This bag is to die for.  I love adding a little fun to my looks, because an all black look can be a little serious sometimes.  What other way is there to add a little fun than a sparkly egg purse?  Make sure to hide your dark circles at brunch with a pair of oversized sunnies.

These Boots are Made for Sparkling

Mermaid Waves has officially been on this earth for two years now! It is so crazy to think how far this blog has come, from iPhone OOTD selfies, to new layouts, to working with some of my favorite brands, it has been quite the amazing journey.  At the bottom of this post I linked the 5 most popular posts ever! Check them out and let me know your favorites.  For this birthday post, I wore some of my favorite birthday presents!  I love any piece of clothing that has built in structure, a little structure can go a long way, it will create a super flattering shape even if you have no shape.  These boots were my birthday present to myself, because they are literally me as a shoe.  The glitter, the tassel, the stars, perfection.  I love layering pieces, a simple button-up is the perfect way to make this dress more interesting and more winter weather appropriate.

Santa Baby!

Merry Christmas my loves!  The day I have been celebrating for over a month is finally here.  Although I am heartbroken there is no snow on the ground, I found some pretty cool snowmen.  Naturally I have had the perfect Christmas outfit in the works for months now.  This red furry skirt is like Mrs. Claus got a major makeover.   I'm not sure what else one would pair this skirt with but SANTA KITTY tights, they have hats on.  If that isn't the most exciting thing you have read all day, please share your news.  Have the merriest Christmas, and eat lots of cookies!

All though I love to treat myself, during the holidays its just as exciting to treat others! I made oodles of cookies for residents at a community youth shelter!

24 Hour Guide to Winter in the Windy City

Hey all! Whether you are from Chicago or are visiting I have put together the ultimate 24 Hour Guide to seeing Chicago with Eventbrite.  From restaurants to activities this is the perfect guide to seeing all Chicago has to offer.  Even though I have lived here my whole life, I am still in awe of the amazing things this city has to offer, especially in the winter!  Although it is quite an unpopular opinion, I think Chicago is the best in the winter.  With that, follow me!
Rise and Shine sleepy head! Start your day of right at The Allis in Soho House.  This spot is located in the West Loop, one of the hottest areas in the city right now.  The Allis is a gorgeous (and highly instagrammable) spot; filled with cozy couches, a pastry counter, and lots of natural light.  I always go for a cup of green tea and an avocado toast.  Make sure to eat up because we have a long day ahead of us!

Next stop is the equally instagrammable Langham Hotel, the experience at the Chaun Spa is unlike any experience at a spa you have ever received.  I felt like I was on a retreat far far away for weeks, after about two hours at the Chaun Spa.  Treat yourself!
After you have been rejuvenated, head over to Wicker Park.  Wicker park is the ultimate destination for shopping, sweets, and eats.  For your new favorite lunch destination head over to Antique Taco.  Antique Taco is adorable like Pinterest IRL, their tacos are outstanding and I haven't been impressed with any other taco since.  Be sure to save room for some sugar, walk a few blocks down to Stan's Donuts.  Everything is delicious, but I recommend the Biscoff Pocket, for the advanced donut eater.

While you are in Wicker Park burn some calories and take a stroll on the 606 trail.  See some art along with awesome views of the city!  Don't forget to stop in all the unique shops Wicker Park has to offer.
For the ultimate winter activity, go to Maggie Daley Park.  Not only does this park have the coolest playground in the city, it has a Ice Rink Ribbon! Skate along the ribbon and have an amazing view of the city at the same time.  Bring your own skates and you don't have to wait in line!
Time for some culture.  Warm up from skating and head over to the Modern Wing at the Art Institute.  Be inspired by the art and the beautiful building itself.  For bonus points head to the Terzo Piano, in the museum, for the best fries you will ever eat, and thats a promise.
To end the day, grab a deep-dish pizza (DUH) from Lou Malnati's and head back to your hotel or home.  Hide under your covers, grab your box of pizza, and turn on a good movie for the ultimate way to end your day in Chicago!
What are you excited to try? What did I miss?

Birthday in Black

Yesterday I turned 18.  I had a wonderful day filled with friends, family, and lots of food, all my favorites.  Turning 18, was quite shocking to me, half the time I see myself as a 12 year old and the other half I see myself as a 70 year old.  So, I had to find the perfect outfit to make me feel 18.  I found these pants at the Luxury Garage Sale pop-up, first of all you must visit their pop-up, its filled with the dreamiest pieces, second of all look at my pants.  When I picked up these pants I knew they belonged to me.  With a pair of fringe pants I believe the only thing to pair it with is a lace-up bodysuit.  I finished off the look with a fabulous black clutch.

Tea time at The Allis!
