Last Week Tonight: Chicago

I will be in Chicago, New York, and LA this summer and I can't wait to share all my discoveries from my eats and treats to my favorite hangouts and places to shop.  This week was my first full week of vacation and I spent it at home in Chicago!  I will be live snapping (danimikay) and gramming (@mermaidwaves) my summer but will be doing a weekly roundup of the highlights here.

Things to do: My mom and I snuck over to North Ave beach early one morning, the beach was completely empty and I felt like I was in another world.

On Thursday I performed at my last show of the school year at the Harris Theater! I don't really talk about dance on MerWaves but maybe I will add in more and more!
Eats and Treats: Monday I had a Memorial Day picnic for two up on the rooftop.  Everything was vegan and from Whole Foods!
One of my favorite meals of all time is from Osteria Via Stato, the ricotta cavatelli is happiness in the shape of a noodle.  But honestly, the best part of the meal is their bread with olive oil and garlic.
I visited my Grandma in Evanston this week and we went to Frio for Gelato! I got chocolate chip with caramel on top of a scoop of banana *tongue emojis*.  Although the gelato was delicious seeing my gramma was the best part.
I take my sandwiches very seriously. This sandwich from The Allis did not disappoint, it was stuffed with veggies.  The Allis is on the first floor of the beautiful Soho House which is the most attractive place to hangout.
This Weeks Top Pick:  This week I went to Ginger Slam Nail Bar and fell in love! Not only do my nails look fantastic but I had the most amazing experience.  The staff will make you feel like their BFF and the pedi chairs alone are worth a visit.  I chose a bright red for my fingers and a pale pink on my toes!

The Ultimate Summer Bag

I can not wait to get my summer travels started but first I needed the perfect bag.  I found this backpack from Target and knew with a mermaid's touch it would be the ultimate summer bag.  With a few iron-on patches and pompoms from Michaels this bag was totally transformed.

I was inspired by the huge amount of fun and funky personalized bags at FW all over the world, this spring.  Obviously these bags are ones only I could possess in my dreams, so I made my own!

Move over Martha Stewart! I am seriously so excited to take this bag with me to New York and to LA! I can't wait to show you all the places this little bag will go this summer so stay tuned.

My Mom and I put together these adorable tassels with some embroidery thread, beads and some pompoms!

#GARAGE FESTIVAL

I am always looking for a new destination to shop and I am so excited to share Garage with you!  Garage is the epitome of carefree summer clothing and just opened their fourth location in Illinois at Westfield Old Orchard.  Check out the two looks I put together at my trip to Garage below!
 They have amazing swimwear too!
Garage has six different styles of shorts to keep you looking cute all summer.
I went with an all white look because nothing screams summertime more.  These jeans are a perfect fit, which is rare for me, they are fitted but still slightly baggy.  I have been searching for months for destroyed white jeans and these were the perfect pair, they are also on SALE!  I paired the jeans with this white crop top, which makes me feel like Lizzie McGuire, so it was obviously a win.

It's no secret that I love a good crop top but when it comes to bathing suits I love one-pieces.  They are so underrated but seriously amazing.  This one-piece by Garage has an crocheted overlay with a criss-cross back.  Throw on a cute coverup and you will be the hottest one in the sand.

Somewhere Over the Rainbow

Since its Memorial Day weekend its finally socially acceptable to dress for full on Summer! I went for a 70s inspired look with a crocheted halter and denim culottes.  This rainbow halter is definitely my favorite summer '15 piece so far.  My love for culottes is large but these denim ones have taken my obsession above and beyond! Shop the look under the "shop" tab above!

My earrings are from Claire's and are probably about as old as I am.

This mural is so beautiful! I wish my school looked like this.
I put a twist (lol literally) on one of my favorite hairstyles from elementary school, I looped through the bubbles of this ponytail.  It would be amazing to try on longer hair with so many bubbles!

Summer Nights

Yesterday was officially my last final and although I just wanted to wear my pajamas, I managed to put this look together.  I can not believe that in the final weeks of May yesterday temperature didn't even reach 50 degrees.  I decided against wearing a turtleneck and fur and put together this bohemian inspired look perfect for a chilly summer evening.  Shop this look under the SHOP tab above! I have so many exciting things planned this summer, I can not wait to share them with you all.

I can not even deal with these shoes, I am so in love.  My metallic tattoos are the perfect touch to this bohemian look.
